![]() You can give a keyword to a whole clip, to a single range in a clip OR even several keywords to several ranges (that even overlap) to a single clip. For me, as long as I own a Mac I'll always have the dueling cousin NLEs installed no matter what The trimming shortcuts are also something worthwhile as well. The ability to have multiple in and out points and keyword/favorites tagging system is something other NLEs should copy. The way that almost every effect in there is essential a Motion project is pretty awesome and damn near trumps Adobe's dynamic link system. Now I wasn't jazzed when the first iterations of FCPX came out and had to use it on paid projects but it has made significant strides since then. Ironically, all of my Premiere shortcuts are mapped to work a lot like FCP 7. Then I started using Premiere before ppl starting giving it another look around CS4. The first pro NLE I used when I started out was FCP 6/7. It’s been several years so I’m sure it’s improved, but the fact that it hasn’t caught on in popularity among professional grade editors and post facilities is the only indication I need.įCP has more positives than you think and this from someone who goes between them regularly with most times using Premiere by choice for 85% of my work and FCPX for 15% or when the stakes aren't as high. And then a long tail of unending questions to the staff editors, “wait how do I make it do this?” “Why won’t it let me do this?” “Are these really the only export settings you get?” Etc etc. Not to mention the freelancer pool is so thin, when we needed to staff up we couldn’t find people who knew how to use it, and the learning curve is so long, it’s not just like a day or two adjustment period, it’s like a week or two. ![]() It does have some really cool features I wish Premiere had but at the end of the day we deemed it unfit for a professional work environment. Round tripping to AE and C4D and Resolve took annoying extra steps you shouldn’t have to do… Maybe they’ve fixed this but you couldn’t export OMFs without 3rd party software. You don’t use a traditional folder hierarchy you use “tags” and search, so every piece of media has to be properly labeled and tagged upon ingest or things get very disorganized. It’s very counter intuitive to other NLEs.Ī lot of core concepts are different. If you have to use it, I would watch as many tutorial videos as possible because you’re NOT gonna just sit down, poke around, and figure it out in a day. My company tried it for a year and it caused so many problems for the workflows of a professional post facility that we switched back to Premiere. Looking for something more local?
